From ponds to meadows, off-site BNG results in more diverse, connected ecosystems.

Biodiversity at Hope Hall Farm

At Hope Hall, we are restoring farmland into thriving habitats where wildflowers bloom, wildlife flourishes, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements are met through measurable nature recovery.

Hope Hall is more than just our family farm- it is a thriving haven for nature. We are restoring significant areas of the landscape to their natural state, creating a thriving ecosystem designed to flourish for generations.

We have embraced the opportunity to make meaningful change since the introduction of Biodiversity Net Gain requirements for new developments. Since September 2020, we have been establishing dedicated BNG units across the farm, transforming the land into a vibrant and diverse environment.

Species-Rich Grassland

At the heart of our work is a rich neutral grassland habitat, created in collaboration with Barenbrug. We have now covered a third of the site with a carefully selected mix of over 30 native wildflowers and grasses. These provide an essential resource for pollinators, birds and small mammals.

Over the past four years, the increase in bird and insect life has been remarkable. Each season brings new species and thriving populations, serving as a visible testament to the land’s biodiversity.

From waterways to wildflower meadows, Hope Hall Farm is a haven for biodiversity.

Waterways and Parklands

Our ecological vision extends far beyond wildflower meadows. A newly established large pond has already attracted a variety of waterfowl and amphibians. This has broadened wildlife diversity and enriched the local ecosystem. The woodland that borders the site, planted over twenty years ago, is now under extensive management to encourage healthier tree growth, dense flora and a diverse wildlife presence.

To add a parkland charm to the site, we also planted trees across our wildflower meadows, enhancing the landscape’s structure, beauty and ecological value.

Hedgerows and Wildlife Corridors

Our hedgerows play a vital role in conservation efforts. They have been widened and reinforced with trees every 30-40 metres. We also only cut half the hedges each year and let the lower branches grow thick. This provides safe nesting for hedgerow birds, protects them from predators and supports thriving bird populations.

Hedgerows are also essential for the survival of many species. They create habitat corridors that allow wildlife to move between fragmented or isolated patches of forest, grassland or other ecosystems.

BNG Units Ltd’s commitment to these habitats

With a 30-year Section 106 agreement in place, our commitment to conservation is long-term. The project strengthens connections among local Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) by establishing wildlife corridors that allow species to move and thrive across the landscape.

By purchasing BNG units from us, you are not only streamlining your development process but also investing in a lasting environmental legacy. Follow us on this journey and help shape a rich, biodiverse future that will flourish for decades to come.
